We are pleased to host two of our Gifted and Talented staff members, Mrs. Anne-Marie Hughes and Mrs. Lindsey Jablonski, at our upcoming general meeting. They will present a workshop entitled “How to encourage your child to be a lifelong learner”. The workshop will give you tools to use at home to help your child succeed. Time will be allotted for questions and answers. Our meeting will start with general business at 7:30 and the presentation will begin at about 7:45. You do not have to be a PTA member to attend, the general meetings are open to all parents!
Speakers: Mrs. Hughes, and Mrs. Jablonski are both WWP K-3 Gifted & Talented Resource Specialists. Mrs. Hughes works at both Maurice Hawk and Dutch Neck and Mrs. Jablonski works at Town Center, 3rd grade at Millstone River and Wicoff.
Mrs. Hughes‘ background includes over 20 years of diverse teaching experiences across 3 states. These include special education, general education, homeschooling education and gifted education. This is her fourth year in the district working as the K-3 gifted specialist. She received both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Trenton State (now TCNJ) and is currently working on her gifted education certification at Rutgers.
Mrs. Jablonski has been an educator for 9 years. This is her 2nd year in the district and 1st year as the G and T specialist. Previously, she was a 2nd grade teacher in Manchester as well as 4th and 5th grade basic skills teacher. She is currently a graduate student in educational leadership at Rider University.

Coming soon – Movie Night at Maurice Hawk! Mark your calendars, grab your sleeping bags and pj’s and plan on joining us for a night of family fun as we gather together to watch movie magic on our version of the silver screen. This year’s featured attraction is Disney Pixar’s Monsters University, a look a life inside monster college and the adventures of two students, Sully and Mike.
Watch for the flyers to come home with your children and make sure to send in your RSVP before the deadline date of November 1. This is a ticketed event open to all Maurice Hawk students and their families (siblings are welcome) and admission is $5 per person regardless of age. Included in the ticket price is a snack and beverage for each attendee and all children MUST be accompanied by an adult. All attendees must have a ticket to attend and tickets will only be sold in advance (no tickets sold at the door the night of the event) so watch for the flyers to make your purchase. Field day spirit shouldn’t be reserved for once a year! Wear your Hawk shirts all week long, January 9-13, but save your Field Day shirt for Friday! Come one, come all to the annual Science Fair! Over 150 teams are signed up to put their interest in science on display.
Set up starts at 9 am. The fair is open from 10 am to 12 pm.
Refreshments will be sold including muffins, sweets, and coffee!
Please note that our program for our March general meeting has changed. Superintendent Dr. David Aderhold will be giving a presentation on “Residential Growth and its impact on Maurice Hawk.” Please join us to learn more about this important issue affecting our school.
Our annual spring literacy festival provides evening hours at the book fair for family shopping, fun events hosted by the classroom teachers, and a literacy-themed performance sponsored by the PTA to cap off each evening!
In 2017 our literacy festival is March 8 and 9, from 6 to 8:30 pm!
Information on our International Fair will be coming home soon. Children can prepare poster projects on a country of their choice and/or walk in our cultural parade in their ethnic costume! There will be dance performances by local organizations and a reception with international snacks.

The third grade picnic is a gift from the PTA to our third graders as they leave the Hawk nest! They will enjoy their brown bag lunch outdoors followed by games, ice cream, and signing each others yearbooks. The yearbooks are created by our Third Grade Picnic committee chair and distributed free of charge to all students!

Join us for a hands-on program, “Inside a Math Classroom”! Through hands-on activities and discussion, parents will experience what it feels like to be part of a math community in a WW-P K-3 classroom.
The program will be presented by Ms. Melissa Pearson, Mathematics Supervisor K-5, and Susan Totaro, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, K-12.

Are you a budding scientist, biologist, chemist, physicist, programmer, engineer or just someone who has a lot of questions that start with how, why or what if? If you are, then we hope you’ll sign up to be a part of the Maurice Hawk Science Fair!
Come up with a question about astronomy, robotics, AI, natural science and the workings of our planet or maybe what happens when baking soda and vinegar hang out together and conduct some research, design some experiments and record your findings and conclusions. Then put it all together in a colorful presentation to share with everyone at the Science Fair.
You can sign up by yourself or with a team of 1 or 2 friends or siblings and then it’s time to get to work asking questions, exploring possibilities and finding answers!
